Department of Oligomers and Synthetic Rubbers was founded in the IMC structure in 1965. Yu.L. Spirin, a disciple of a world-wide scientist in the polymeric field S.S. Medvedev, was its first head. Yu.L Spirin transferred to IMC advanced theoretical and experimental achievements of Moscow polymeric school, owing to Department succeeded considerable approach in an actively developing field of the oligomer chemistry.
After Spirin's death in 1977, V.K. Grishchenko have been heading Department. In 1988 at the suggestion of Presidium of NAN of Ukraine, Department was renamed in Department of Oligomers and Synthetic Rubbers in connection with importance of development and investigation of home synthetic rubbers.
The initiators of various nature, including oligomeric and polymeric ones, which can be produced on Experimental Plant of IHVS, were developed in Department. The substances and materials as well methods of their obtaining are protected by 85 copyright certificates of USSR and patents of Ukraine and Russia.
The results of research are generalized in 3 monographs and expounded in more than 400 scientific publications; they are awarded to the State prize of Ukraine (1996) and Kiprianov prize of National academy of sciences of Ukraine (1991).
