Department of physical chemistry of polymers was founded in 1959. Investigations of properties of polymers, which were synthesized in the other departments of institute, were performed. Academician Yu.S. Lipatov was appointed as the head of department in 1965. He is a follower of V.A. Kargin – the famous scientist in the field of physical chemistry of polymers. Yu.S. Lipatov grounded the directions of scientific activity of the department, which made it possible to determine the new approaches to the fundament investigations of multicomponent systems in the future.
Up to now 21 Doctors of science and 42 Ph.D. were prepared in the Department.
The results of investigations are summarized in 18 monographs (including 6 which are published abroad), 3 reference books, 1250 scientific papers, 150 national inventors' certificates and patents.
