The department is built in 1965. The Doctor of Biological Sciences N.A. Galatenko is the Head of the Department since 1995. From 1998 the Department has received a title - Polymers of Medical Appointment.
The main scientific direction of department: Mechanisms interaction of urethane-containing polymers with macromolecules of biologically active compounds.
In Department 2 Doctors of Sciences and 16 PhD are prepared. The scientific achievements are set up in 8 books, 203 scientific articles, are protected by 35 Patents.
The employees of Department are awarded with the State Premium of Ac.Sci. of Ukraine on Science and Engineering, International Premium Ac.Sci. USSR and Czechoslovakian Ac.Sci., are awarded by medals VDNCh USSR etc.
